Hands-On Labor Support Workshop

This workshop is an overview of innovative, hands-on skills for labor companions. We will demonstrate and practice the techniques in a variety of common positions which facilitate progress in labor. Emphasis will be on methods to enhance maternal comfort and encourage optimal positioning of babies during labor and birth. Use of safe body mechanics to avoid injury will be highlighted. Wear comfortable clothes, bring 3 pillows and a dish to share for potluck lunch following class.

Basic Labor Assistant Workshop

This class is an introduction to the art of assisting a family during labor for those who are planning to offer this service on a limited basis or those who are exploring this exciting career option. The path forward to certification is optional.

The course will run as a two-day intensive. The first day serves as an extensive overview of the anatomy/physiology of labor, birth, immediate postpartum and lactation basics - including variations and challenges in a variety of birth settings, complications and medical interventions. The second day we focus on being with women and their families during this experience, comfort measures, hands-on techniques and self care.
